Biography

Suzi Pittman Tompkins grew up in Peoria, Illinois where she discovered her love of drawing. She was influenced by her father's simplicity and her mother's gift of music and laughter. These gifts are reflected in her desire to bring moments of joy to the viewer of her paintings. Suzi received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education in 1973 from Eastern Illinois University. During the next twenty years of raising children, Suzi also spent time decorating and remodeling homes. She was so successful at remodeling that she twice earned a net profit of over $100,000 on the sale of homes.

What followed was a natural career as a Trompe L'Oeil artist and Faux finisher, which was very successful for a number of years until Suzi and her husband moved to Europe. She studied the works of Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Paul Gaugin at D'Orsay Museum in Paris and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It was there that she developed the style she is most noted for that Suzi calls "impressionistic whimsy". She began showing her work at the American Women's Club of Brussels Member Shows of 2000 and 2001 before returning to the US in 2002.

Suzi now resides near Charlotte, NC with her pastor husband, Richard. (If you ask her, I'm sure she will also brag about their seven children, and ten grandchildren!)
